Worked 1885 to 1901
Output: 540 T of Tin
Mine site originally part of West Wheal Metal, Metal and Flow re worked the 'Flow' of tailings from the earlier Metal workings.
Rems: A small stamps / pumping engine house and stack stands amid dumps and burrows on Carnmeal Downs. There are also traces of dressing floors and buddles.
A very interesting feature of the Chimney is that it is made of bricks of different colours forming an intricate pattern. Probably unique in Cornwall.
The 30" engine fitted here was used for both stamps and pumping being erected 2nd hand in 1885. The engines main beam worked the rotatative stamps to the front of the house but was connected to a back bob which operated on the rear bob wall of the engine house to pump the shaft raising water for the stamping operations. Watson shaft is 47 Fathoms deep with the adit at a depth of 12 Fathoms. The engine worked until 1901 when site ceased working.
SHALLOW EDIT LEVEL- I found a collapsed shallow adit here in 1989. After weeks of digging, I found all the tools left in place after mine closure. Daz.
