Wheal Devonshire worked for Tin at the base of the St.Agnes granite mass. at shallow depths the workings entered a decomposing granite which at surface was worked as a clay work supplying candle clay to the mines. South Crofty was buying clay from The St.Agnes Candle Clay Works as late as 1908.
