West Riding (Pope And Pearsons) Coal Colliery (United Kingdom)
A mine adjacent to the village of Altofts. First sinking c.1851. Renowned in mining history for being the site of the trials conducted by William Garforth (later Sir) into the propagation of explosions in coal dust and developments of the safety lamp. Closed in 1966
