Werrington Coal Mine (United Kingdom)


Located near Werrington village outside Stoke-on-Trent. The mine was sunk to work the Crabtree seam by John Wayne in 1956. The mine then sold to Cheshire Oil Services Ltd in 1972 who operated it until the mine was finally sold to and operated by Associated Tunnelling Co Ltd from 1980 to closure in March 1983. The adits were sealed in the July of that year and the site totally cleared.
