The Ulyanovskaya Mine disaster was caused by an explosion that occurred on March 19, 2007 in the Ulyanovskaya longwall coal mine near the Russian city of Novokuznetsk in the Kemerovo Oblast. At least 108 people were reported to have been killed in the blast, which took place at a depth of about 270 m (885 feet) at 10:19 a.m. local time. The mine disaster is Russia's deadliest in over a decade.
