Tyllwyd Lead Mine (United Kingdom)

An interesting mine running up the hillside behind the Rheidol Power station Visitor Centre. At the top of the first tip going up the hill is a low adit at the back of a small quarry-like excavation with a shaft of unknown depth to its left. Left inside the adit is a steeply inclined level leading into the side of the shaft and right leads into an open stope.

A further tip higher up the hill to the right is below what seems to be an infilled stope with a collapsed adit entrance above. Above this is another open stope of unknown depth and higher still is a small adit entrance with a shallow shaft to its left.

The adit bends round to the right and a shallow winze drops into a working heading back towards the entrance which almost certainly connects to the shallow shaft outside. An easy traverse over the winze and a climb over a pile of deads leads to a blind winze. Across this is another pile of deads and the level can be seen to continue beyond.

Continuing up the hill you come to a final adit, of large dimensions but ending at a forefield after about 80 feet.

All these workings except the upper adit are fenced round with quite recent post, mesh and barbed wire fencing. Not mine explorer-proof, however.
