Tavistock Canal (Bedford Canal) Tunnel (United Kingdom)


Opened 1803 to connect Tavistock, Devon, mining district with port of Morwellham, on River Tamar. Branch of canal connected with Mill Hill greenstone quarries, but this abandoned early and converted to tramway. 1.5 mile long Canal tunnel under Morwell Down engineered by John Taylor and completed 1818.
