The Talvivaara mine is located in Sotkamo in Eastern Finland approximately 35km southeast of the town of Kajaani.
Talvivaara consists of two metasedimentary hosted low grade nickel sulphide orebodies, Kuusilampi and Kolmisoppi, which are some 3km apart. Both of these orebodies are amenable to open-pit mining and both have been subjected to advanced exploration programmes undertaken by GSF and Outokumpu prior to Talvivaara´s involvement and further exploration since Talvivaara´s involment.
