Sneyd Coal Colliery (United Kingdom)

The No1 & 2 shafts dated from the 1840's, with a 3rd shaft being sunk in 1900. Further development saw the sinking of a 4th shaft.
During the WW2 an explosion on New Year's Day 1942 in the Banbury workings led to the death of 57 men.
Coal winding ceased in 1962 with the connection of Sneyd to Wolstanton Colliery, but the No4 shaft was retained for ventilation & as a 2nd Means of Egress. All remaining buildings at Sneyd were demolished after the closure of Wolstanton in 1985.
