Sado Gold Mine (Japan)

Sado Island lies in the Japan Sea about 35 kilometers off the largest of the Japanese islands, Honshu. Sado is an island where for centuries people — including an ex-emperor — were sent into exile. Sado experienced a boom during the Edo era when gold was found at Aikawa.
