Piako County Tramway (Wairongomai Valley) Gold Tramway (New Zealand)

A complex tramway system constructed in 1882/3 for £18,000 to connect a number of gold mines with the Firth and Clark battery at the lower end of the Wairongomai Valley. The Wairongomai valley is home to numerous old mines, battery sites and partially restored sections of the tramway system. The iSite office in nearby Te Aroha has a handy trails map of the valley.
