Oakerthorpe (East) Colliery (Speedwell) Coal Mine (United Kingdom)

The remains of this colliery and pumping station are in woods on the south side of the brook and were connected originally to Wingfield Manor Colliery via a line that ranover the brook and away to the West. Recent info received shows that the engine house remains here were bulldozed into the shaft and that the timbers in the shaft and at nearby Millstone Lane are not from the headgear as previously thought. A local who has first hand experience of the site assures me the shaft was filled and that the earth features around the shaft were created as an attempt to form a pond and nature reserve!
