Oakenshaw Colliery Coal Colliery (United Kingdom)

Despite being very close to Walton (Sharlston West Colliery) this pit was in the same group as St John's at Normanton. The headgear was a very prominent feature to those travelling on the Doncaster Road into Wakefield and those attending the fairs on Heath Common; it was very close to the A638 & A655 roads, the Barnsley Canal and Wakefield Power Station. Some of the original buildings survive as offices.
