This mine was worked for micaceous iron ore used to make micaceous paint. It seems to have been started c1931 to replace the nearby mine at Wray Barton whose ore was of poor quality. It closed in the early 1950s. The main 2-storey mill was demolished c1974 and replaced by a house.
Adits on at least two levels. Bottom one flooded. Top one dry and has shaft down to lower one about 150 yards in. Tackle needed to cross the shaft and progress further. Samples of the amazing silvery-black ore easy to find.
Also found an adit behind Wray Barton farm but it was only
a dead-end trial.
Thanks to Hodbarrow for above description.
