Moorside Coal Mine (United Kingdom)


Located at Mosbrough in south east Sheffield this drift mine was worked via 2 drifts (intake and return). The mine was driven in December 1943 after the close by Dent Main (of 1927) became un-economic. the Parkgate seam was worked varying from 3 to 6 feet thick. The mines haulage engine was electric and was built by Beatson of Sheffield and was rated at 50HP. The last coal was raised on the 28th Feb 1992 with the drifts being filled by the 20th March 1992, by the 27th the site had been cleared and totally vacated.
