Middridge Drift Coal Mine (United Kingdom)


This mine was located NE of Shildon. Date of opening not known. It was known to have been worked by the NCB from 1953 to August 1966. It was re-opened by Middridge Mine Co Ltd who worked the Sutton L2 coal seam twin drifts. The mine closed on Sunday 20th Jan 1991, the site was still there in 1993 but the drifts were blocked off. The site has subsequently been completely cleared.
