Menzies Barossa (Barossa) Gold Mine (Australia)

In 1868 Job Harris and partners found gold in Spike Gully near the South Para River, west of Williamstown. This was unsold Crown Land and was proclaimed an official goldfield with a warden appointed. On the second day there were 40 gold seekers, 1,000 within a week and, within a month, 4,000 licensed and 1,000 unlicensed diggers.
