NCB pit previosuly owned by Lothian Coal Company. Sinking/production commenced 1895. Closed 1981. Abandoned 1982. Now the site of the Scottish Mining Museum. 1 shaft originally 530m deep - reduced to 487m in 1948. Was connected to Lingerwood allowing only one shaft.
