Jeffreys (Presser) Lead Mine (United Kingdom)

"From all accounts Jeffrey's Mine has been the the most extensively worked of all the Derwent Mines, and its period of activity extended over nearly 200 years at least. It was leased by William Forster of Bamborough to a Thomas Rawlins of Durham in 1690 and was worked up to 1883.
The steam plant installed by Easterby Hall and Co between 1807 and 1810 was, under the Derwent Mining Co discarded, and water power was reinstated soon after the company came into possession......plant which continued in use up to the closing of the mines"
Smith also says
"The greater part of these two mines has been leased within late years to the Consett Water Company who pump the water from the extensive workings"
From Smith, 1923, Special Report on Lead and Zinc Ores of Northumberland and Alston Moor.
The pumping engine house on site now was built around 1906 when the mine had closed by the Consett Water Company.
In the 1970s EXUD briefly reopened Presser shaft looking for fluorspar.
