Horn Island Gold Mine (Australia)


Gold was first discovered on Horn Island or Ngurapai Island by John Smyth and Co in 1894. During the next 20 years, 6,000 oz of gold was extracted. A new open-cut gold mine was established in 1988 although operations only lasted for two years.
