Hilton Lead Mine (United Kingdom)

A group of levels worked on the SE side of Scordale Beck. First worked by the London Lead Company 1824-1876 as lead mines the mines were reopened by the Scordale Mining company in 1896 the lease has since been held by Brough barytes Co, , Scordale Barytes Ltd, W Wharton and B Laporte Ltd although the latter company never produced any barytes here. In 1963 the site was cleared and now the land forms part of the Warcop Firing Ranges, the army sealed most of the level mouths when they took over the land.
