Hay Dale Calcite Mine (United Kingdom)

This small calcite mine was worked from a shallow inclined adit on the side of Hay Dale. The entrance has partly collapsed but some underground workings are still accessible, there are the remains of a compressor shed, an ore chute and a wagon on site. According to Trevor Ford's article on calcite mining (Mining History vol.15 no.1, 2002) it was first worked briefly in the 1930s, and reopened by George Fletcher in the 1960s.
