Greenlands Coal Mine (United Kingdom)

Located at Five Lane Ends, Quebec, County Durham. The original date of opening is not known but it was later worked by the NCB. After a period of closure the mine was re-opened by Tremewan Collieries Ltd in 1971. They sold out to Crookhall Coal Co Ltd in Sept 1974. The mine changed hands twice more ending up with David carlisle in 1989. It was worked to 1993 when production ceased and it was sold to Bill Fairbairn who cleared the site during 1998.
The mine was worked via 2 drifts of 1 in 3, one being used for haulage, the other 'step drift' that was used for pedestrian access.
The two seams worked were the Top and Bottom Busty seams.
