El Eden (Zacatecas) Silver Mine (Mexico)

El Eden is a tourist mine once owned by the state but now impressively redeveloped under priviate ownership with an investment of $2m. The mine was originally started in 1586. The entance is on Calle Dovali Jaime. The trip starts with a 600m train journary along a level. Next are underground shops and a very good mineral display. There is also an underground night club. The trip through the mine tells the history of mining in Mexico. The exit is via an lift/elevator just like stepping into a lift in a hotel. Beware that the exit (on Calle del Grillo) is some 500m ENE of the entrance and you will have to walk down the hill back to the town and the entrance.
