this is a very early mine showing on 1848 os map...originaly single shaft pit only.situated on the edge of a steep river valley it was unusual because it had a bridge that crossed the valley to a dock on the fairbottom branch canal...hence its name.the shaft is filled but it has settled by about 30 ft,at one time the seam near river level caught fire.the remains of the bridge buttress litter the river bed.a secocnd shaft is nearby and is close enouth to be linked .the site is heaviley overgrown now and almost imposible to reach.
