Lead mine at the head of Ireshopeburn worked from two Levels, the original Deepcleugh Level driven in the Little Limestone (now run in) and a later level from Clints Crags some 70m below in the Great Limestone.
Deepcleugh Level and shafts along the vein were started from about 1781 by the W B Lead Co. Sumps were sunk into the Great Limestone below the level then 1848-62 the company drove Clints Level (1930ft) to drain them. Clints is still open for a way.
