Worked between 1896 and 1955, and owned by the Consett Iron Company, it was made up by several different pits; Chopwell No 1 Pit, Chopwell No 2 Pit, Chopwell No 3 Pit, Whittonstall Drift, East Drift, Hutton Drift and West Drift.
