Chasnala Coal Mine (India)


On 27th December 1975 an explosion in the mine followed by flooding killed 372 miners. The caving in of a roof of coal let in seven million gallons of water per minute in the mine. Miners were trapped under a mountain of debris and drowned when the water surged into the mine.The Indian Iron and Steel Company, which owned the mine, said it conformed to international standards
