Carnon Stream Mine (1823, Listed Grade II). The remains of this creek-side engine house mark the unique Carnon
Stream Mine that worked tin gravels in the river bed from shafts sunk within artificial islands out in the river itself.
Mining continued in the area; tin prices were still good enough to exploit a previously un-worked area of Carnon Stream Mine; Charles’ Shaft was sunk at Point. The new mine’s best year was in 1873 when it employed 63 men and boys, but this success was to be short lived as it closed in 1874.
