Carbrook Clay Mine (United Kingdom)


Located on edge of Tor Wood in Nort west Stenhousemuir. This fireclay mine was opened in 1953 and was owned and worked by Graigend Refractories Ltd. The mine was a single decline at a gradient of 1 in 3 worked by an LDC electric engine. Approx 65 tons of fireclay were produced daily by the 13 or so employees. The mine was worked into the 1990's but was closed and the site cleared by July 1995.
