Camborne School Test (Holman) Granite Mine (United Kingdom)

Camborne School of Mining Test Mine

This is the test mine that the Camborne School of Mining uses for teaching its students.

Various mining techniques are simulated here and students are shown how to drill, charge and fire explosive rounds. The mine also allows various research organisations to test seismic monitoring instruments, remote access vehicles and experimental firing of explosives.

Originally the mine (it was a quarry first and then tunnels were driven) was owned by the Holman Drill Company which used it for testing their air legs, subsequently much of the mine in peppered with rows of drill holes.
