Bentaillou Lead Mine (France)

A large underground lead zinc mine worked from ancient times up to (I think) 1960's. Worked under German occupation in the 2nd war.
The mines were at around 1800 metres with aeriel cableways taking the ore don to lower mills. The entire setup was almost intact up to 1976 when a trial re-opening for calcite took place but was a failure.
Previously there was a superb through trip from top old workings right through the mountain but around 2005, all entrances were blasted after a fatality. Approximately a 4 hour walk from last parking place.
