Barmoor Colliery
The location of this colliery is a bit surprising and is possibly on or close to the limestone / gritstone boundary.
The colliery belonged to Dr R.O. Gifford-Bennet I.P. and was abandoned in April 1893 due to an inrush of water.
The nature of the coal worked is uncertain, however a section of No1 Shaft (south) indicate a thin smut (inferior coal) just 6in which is underlain by a possibly ganister of 1ft 6in at approx 13 yards depth, total shaft section is 18yards. The shaft section for No2 shaft (north) show a Black Bass (inferior coal) of 1ft 6in at approx 4 yards depth, the total depth of the shaft section if 9 yards 7feet.
The worked seam dip slight west of north at about 5in in a yard and both shafts linked by a short level.
