Aykley Heads Coal Colliery (United Kingdom)

This was a small local mine opened initially in the 1880s and thereafter had a chequered history of closures and reopenings under at least 4 different owners one of whom also ran the nearby Durham Main colliery. It finally closed in the 1940's and the whole area around it now forms the grounds of the Durham Light Infantry Museum.
