Avebury Nickel Mine (Australia)

Recently opened underground nickel mine, discovered by Allegiance Mining in January 1998. Allegiance was taken over by Zinifex limited in late 2007. The mine was mothballed shortly after it was commissioned due to low nickel prices rendering it uneconomic to continue. At the time of writing (June 2011) Chinese owned Minmetals Resources is trying to reopen the mine but is facing difficulties due to the arsenic content of the nicle concentrates.
