Acland No. 2 Coal Mine (Australia)


Abandoned underground coal mine just north of township of Acland in Queensland. Mine worked between 1913 and 1984, the longest continuously operating coal mine in Queensland. The site , now a 'museum' is 'in the way' of a new development proposed by New Hope Coal - the New Acland Mine. A spirited resistance is being put up by Glen Beutel, a retired geologist, and one of the last residents of Acland. Web page :
