Metalliferous Minerals & Mining by D C Davies

This is a very important book giving information on mining & minerals in the UK & worldwide.
Any serious collector should have a copy of this.
DC Davies is quoted as a source in David Bicks series of books.

There was a copy in Bonython Books in Truro quite recently. There was also a bound copy of the first 14 Ham Jenks cornwall guides, which actually put me off getting my card out.

There are eleven copies on AbeBooks from a photocopy version at £17 to a first edition at £135.

In terms of mining books from this era it is not the best of the bunch.

For similar money (£40 - £60) you can pick up a copy of Le Neve Foster on Ore and Stone Mining which for my money is far more informative.

Ore & Stone Mining is also very good :thumbsup:

There is a re-print of British Mining a treatise on the history and future prospect of metalliferous mining in the united kingdom from the British Library
by Robert Hunt but is seems to be only part two 😠
Unless anyone has seen part one?

The reprint is really dissapointing as it does not include the technical sections

I agree with theses comments, All of these books are a bit like beauty, in the eyes of the beholder.
Robert Hunt's book is a bit like the curates egg, but it must be remembered he was a very old man when he wrote it, although these books may be rare it does not make them good.
The Cornwall Centre Redruth has several copies of, AKHJ Mines and Miners of Cornwall £50 and one copy of Mineralogia Cornubiensis W. Pryce £100 All are in good condition

A cheap way of reading this book is to use the services of the Internet Achieve - just use the following.

Plenty of other rare stuff that is out of copyrite is sitting in archive.org waiting to be looked at etc:

£50 per Jenkin is pretty steep, even first editions.

If anyone has the "index" (first ed) I would be interested and have a budget for it.

Its a shame you don't keep an eye my website - I had two copies of the index until 3 weeks ago and both went to the USA - £20 each

The digitized verisons of a lot of books are interesting. As I've remarked before, the only problem seesm to be that the £$%^&*^$&'s who digitized them didn't always fold out the plates and scan them. Still, what's there is very interesting - and at least they are available. The Open Library is another front end.

I have richardson's book, but left it in the glovebox of my jeep, which somehow filled with water. It's legible, but "fat and ruffled". :curse:
