Can any forum member tell me how to take the base off one of these lamps.
Their does not appear to be a magnetic lock just a round hole next to the wick adjuster.
Any info/links would be helpful thanks Gav

This link would suggest that the lamp had a magnetic lock originally but I suppose this could have been drilled out, check the shallow hole in the pics in the first link which appears to show the lock in situ.

Hi Gavin, chances are you're sorted with the above links. If not these pics might help. Taken from a sectioned lamp, produced by the company, the first shows details of how the lock bolt engages with the toothed glassplate.

If this lock is still in place, you will need a very strong magnet to shift it (or drill it out).
Next shows what the underside of the oil vessel should look like.

Lock bolt situated at twelve o'clock. Once you get the bottom off, you need to know that the toothed glassplate is left hand thread. Hope this helps...

Depends which Hailwood & Ackroyd you're talking about.

There're at least 2 different locks for the Type 01 SA. I found both on nearly unused 'new' lamps.

One is the magnetic lock, which would match the round hole

the other one can be pulled out with a small handle, a magnet won't work on this one.

You'll need some magnets like these to open the lamp. Put an extra washer between top and bottom once you've got the lamp open if you don't want to 'destroy' the lock.

Hi Gavin,
If your in the Wakefield area Monday-Friday give me a call at Caphouse, I've got a lamproom magnetic unlocker with a spigot on it that fits in the base of H & A lamps in the museum's mine lighting collections, unless it been over tightend we should be able to open it for you with no damage at all.
