Hi folks,
I was looking at doing the CRTT this w/e with a mate who hasn't done the trip before. I was wondering if anyone who'd done the trip recently knew the state of the ropes & dinghies? The last time I did it, earlier this year, rope 1 was fine, rope 2 was decidely manky, the dinghy at the 1st crossing (sunken suspension bridge) was good and the second dinghy (pulley and string crossing) was okay, but leaked necessitating a brisk pull. :ohmygod:

PS how is the pulley now I'm thinking about it.

Cheers
Nigel

Hi Nigel

Changes over the past few months referencing various other threads for more info...

Handline up to incline shaft - gone 🙂 don't know why, but if anybody can't get up to the incline shaft without them they're probably not going to make the through trip 🙂

1st rope - good

2nd rope - good, but rope protection very worn (see http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=4539  for update on ropes and general)

1st zip wire - no problems

Ladder bridge - fixed  http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=4907

1st bridge (the walkable clipped in one) - no problems

2nd zip wire - no problems

Bridge of death - no immediate problems

Chamber of horrors / dinghy crossing - never rely on there being a decent dinghy here, always take your own just in case. I did it last in early October and we left one good dinghy. Speedy, Lab rat and a few others did it more recently so can probably advise better. However do take your own, you never know you might get there and have to swim it 🙂

Bri & I were talking about just that thing on Saturday. A back to basics trip next year in a style more akin to the original explorations? Wetsuits, inner-tubes and none of the zip-wires or associated razamataz?

One for the Wales weekend maybe?

By Choice!!?? Egads Sir! I'll bet it was cold. What were you wearing? I nice thick wetsuit? That would be just so sweaty on the walk up the Croesor, I don't know what would be worse.

Sounds like fun to me. Anybody know where I can get an inner tube from - short of nicking one out of the Green Canel in Dan yr Ogof? 😉

Hi all,
got the trip done. The recovered ladder bridge is just fantastic! Well done that team. There was a dinghy in the CoH, but it was a leaky one. We used that and our own, inflating it as another party went through.

A top day out underground.

Yay..!! Glad you had a good trip and thanks for the praise on the recovered bridge.

We'll be in there again soon to carry out some more maintenance.

Has anyone bother to check the link and then look at Rob Eavis's photos? They are pretty amazing.

would it not be more practical to build some form of a raft ? as opposed to the never ending stream of inflatables would be an interesting project.and no more punctures ::)
